WHAT IS A DATA MART?
A data mart is a "logical subset of the Data Warehouse, usually seen as a sectorial data warehouse" (Kimball). We can understand that a data mart is only part of a data warehouse. A data warehouse in an organization can include all of the company areas, such as: Foreign Trade, Sales, Production, Finance, among others, while a data mart includes only the data from a department, in our case, Foreign Trade.

DM Sys is a complete and pioneer DataMart solution for the Foreign Trade are that involves data extraction, information handling, and its deployment to the end-user. The information deployment is performed through report extractors, or via output ports to the company corporate BIs. Data Mart (DM Sys) system is designed for the management of consolidated information, which makes it a decision-making tool. The executive can obtain answers for any data related to foreign trade operations. The data can be crossed and compared. The System aims at centrally storing the Foreign Trade information (Import, Export, and Exchange) from Softway systems and/or other data sources, and can be used as a history data migration during the implementation of Softway operational solutions.
The information, that was changed to support strategical, tactical or operational decision making process, is centralized and stored in a dimension and cube (events) structure allowing you to navigate in an easy and precise manner, from the top level to its specific details. The same flexibility is available for the most diverse management reports, due to the use of metadata that makes the information search and understanding easier for the users.
This is a Business Intelligence (BI) system that will provide your company with visibility to help in the decision making process, as it is integrated to the Softway operational systems for Foreign Trade management.
Objective
• Independent base including Foreign Trade management information from Softway systems and/or other data sources.
• This information can be extracted by OLAPs (On-Line Analytical Processing – a software technology category that provides analysts, managers, with rapid acces, consistent and interactive with a wide variety of possible information views), by Softway report extraction tool, or by MS-Excel itself.
• Allows for emphasizing Foreign Trade business processes, and performing a complete financial analysis of these processes. It also enables the organization to make decisions by understanding Softway systems as a whole.
• Data Mart benefits can be easily expanded to the stratedical decision making process in order to reach great and tangible benefits.
• Allows for understanding and administering macro and micro perspectives for Foreing Trade area, saving many working hours and helping avoid and/or make mistakes related to suppositions for incomplete or incorrect data.
Power Decision Slice Management Partnership
DM Sys is a multidimensional database that allows for the integration with several OLAPs tool available in the market. This way, Softway DM Sys and Power Decision Slice Management software, developed by DoSoft, have joined to enhance and complement data and information presentation, performance, and availability. Power Decision has a built-in tool capable of creating standard cockpits, according to the company needs. The Cockpits are management panels that can be used in all the levels within the organization: Strategical, Tactic, and Operational. With this tool, the executives can have ready and adapted models for Foreign Trade area through the integration with DM Sys.
This tool can extract reports and graphics, according to the examples below:
• Relation between imported volume and related taxes.
• Consolidation of shipments/importation processes per invoice and region (North America, Europe, etc.).
• Importation volume per country, allowing for analyzing import and related volume origins through the use of the map.
• Average cycle for inovice clearance per means of transportation, Incoterm, and period.
